Co-director: Cindie Alwood, M.A., CRC, LLPCManuela Kress

Cindie is a co-founder and co-director of the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing. She has over 20 years of experience working with women and women’s issues in a variety of settings. She has worked as a counselor, director and advocate. Cindie served as the director of the Adult Resource & Women’s Center at the University of Michigan Flint campus and prior to that worked as a counselor at the Women’s Resource Center at Lansing Community College. She holds a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University and a bachelor degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology from Western Michigan University.

Cindie served as the President of Lansing Area Chapter of the National Organization for Women and on the board of the Michigan Chapter of NOW for many years. She also served on the Ingham County Women’s Commission. In her role as Center co-director, Cindie oversees the daily operations of the Center, supervises interns and volunteers, coordinates workshops and facilitators, handles the Center finances and works with community partners and referral sources. Cindie works closely with MSU, LCC, Eve’s and Safe Place, the two local domestic violence shelters, and with a women’s homeless shelter.

Cindie provides personal and career counseling to women who are going through all types of life transitions including career changes and job loss. She works with many women who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. Cindie facilitates the Monday morning job seeker support group and teaches the assertiveness class.

Cindie is an active member on a number of local boards and committees that address women’s issues. She also serves as the Director of Michigan Women Work!, the state affiliate of Women Work!.
